208 Wilhelm Friedrich George Behn (* 25 December 1808 in Kiel; † 14. May1878 in Dresden) was a German Anatom and zoologist. It worked from1833 to 1867 as a professor at the University of Kiel, at which itfunctioned 1865 also as a rector. From 1870 to 1878he was a presidentof the imperial Leopoldinisch Carolini German academy of the naturalscientists.
Wilhelm Friedrich George Behn was born 1808 in Kiel and studiedstarting from 1828 medicine at the University of Goettingen and at theUniversity of Kiel, at which it also attained a doctorate to 1832.After its appointment as the private lecturer 1833 it was appointedfour years later in Kiel as the extraordinary professor for anatomyand physiology as well as as the director of the institute for anatomyand the zoo-logical museum. With the Danish corvette Galatea it began1845 a Weltumseglung, which itbroke off however in February 1847 infavor of a Forschungsreise by South America. After it had returned1848 to Kiel, it was promoted in the same year to tidy professor foranatomy and Zoologie.
1860 it functioned as a delegate of the University of Kiel forHolstein condition meeting, five years later officiated it than rectorof the university. After he had withdrawn himself in October 1867 as asign of his protest against the Annexion Holsteinby Prussia and theeducation of the Prussian province Schleswig-Holstein of itsProfessur, he worked from 1870 to 1878 as a president of the imperialLeopoldinisch Carolini German academy of the natural scientists, towhom he had been accepted 1848. It died 1878 in Dresden, thescientific evaluation of its research expedition remained unfinished.
